Herb

This is our firstborn son, Herb. Thinking about it, though, I wonder if the phrase "firstborn" might be a bit inappropriate, considering that he was actually adopted from Home Depot. So this is our firstadopted son. Herbie is a sixteen-month-old cactus, and is currently not as healthy as he looks in this picture. When we first got him, he grew and grew and grew. Then he stopped growing and got shorter and fatter. Then he morphed back into a ball, but a smaller ball, and of a less-than-healthy-looking green hue. We give him a good watering every other week and keep him in sunlight with some other plant friends. I can't figure out where we've gone wrong. To rephrase Jacob 5, "What more could we have done for my cactus?" We're hoping he'll pull through it. If anyone has any suggestions, let us know.

Thanks for the advice! And thanks for posting! We actually just set this up yesterday. I've been checking every five minutes for posts, so I'm grateful to finally have some. Yay for posts!

Although unhealthy, I think your cactus is pretty amazing. He morphed shapes and changes colors. That's entertainment for the whole family if you ask me. I too have a cactus. I have just got it recently. It looks like a regular cactus, green and what not, and then has a crazy red ball on top of it. I'll take a picture and show you. At first I thought I had killed it, because I kill all plants. But now it is growing quite nicely. Mom S's cactus growing comments have insured it's continued growth and prosperity. It lives at my office and I check on it each morning. The crazy red ball has sprouted new red balls. I think this is a sign of progress. Who knows. I am not from Arizona.

I was just reading through all your older posts because I couldn't remember for sure if I read them or not! Is your first adopted cactus still alive? I killed 2 cacti this year and an orchid. There are currently no plants in our apartment. :D

Herb is dead, and I've never been able to love another plant.
